Dear Customers and Prospects,
Many of our followers have been curious about the roots of our official company name, Kern Electronics & Lasers. The “Kern” and “Lasers” parts are both pretty obvious. Kern is a family-operated business providing laser cutting and engraving solutions to a variety of industries.
In the late 80’s, Kern Electronics was founded by Gerald Kern. The company was a bit different back then and didn’t even have a laser in its product lineup. Kern Electronics specialized in providing CAD/CAM solutions to a variety of customers requiring motion control. We even made a couple of router tables! It wasn’t until the early 90’s that Kern entered the laser field. A deal agreed upon between the late Peter Laakmann (founder of Synrad) and Gerald Kern, resulted in a 25 watt Synrad laser being swapped for one of Kern’s CAD/CAM motion packages. The blend of the two technologies launched Kern into the laser machinery sector. Today, Kern more commonly goes by the name Kern Laser Systems, better defining our core product line.
We recently announced that our entire CO2 laser product range of 100 to 400 watts, is now being manufactured by our sister company, Kern Technologies. The ability to bring our laser production in house has allowed us to implement product improvements at a much quicker pace. Kern is also now able to offer the best warranty replacement program in the industry. In most cases, replacement lasers can be shipped out the same day a failure is reported.
For our European customers, CE testing on our LaserCELL and FiberCELL platforms is currently underway and should be completed by the end of June. We are still on track to announce some exciting news by late summer on a new product offering.
For the entire month of May, Kern ran a warranty special offering a 3 year warranty on all CO2 laser machines from 100 – 400 watts. This special has been extended for the entire month of June. There has never been a better time to invest in a Kern laser system!
In April, we enjoyed another successful appearance at the ISA International (Sign Expo) exhibition. Coming up next is the GlobalShop show at the McCormick Place in Chicago, IL from June 25th - 27th. We hope to see many of you at the show.
Our dedicated technical support team is standing by to help our customers keep their laser systems up and running! Rick Holtti, Technical Support Manager, heads our service department and has been with us for nearly 12 years. Andy, Ben, Adam and Marcos are a few other names customers might be greeted by when calling in for support.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update!
President, Kern Laser Systems
